Classes and clubs at THS have spring fever and are getting out and about this season! See below for some updates from life during the school day.
HOSA: The HOSA Future Health Professionals Club attended their first CT Spring Leadership Conference. They had a chance to hear inspirational speakers and take workshops of interest to each member. Check out the article here.
SCIENCE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY: Member of the SNHS took a trip to the Biomedical Science Conference in Boston. The students proudly represented THS at this conference, where they met mentors in the various science fields and participated in discussions and events to help prepare them for a future in the medical field.
SPORTS MEDICINE: Students in the Intro to Sports Med Class have been working on their certification for American Red Cross First Aid and CPR with their instructor, Mrs. Brewer. When finished, all students will have their Red Cross certification.
CHILD DEVELOPMENT: Students at THS recently took on the role of teacher in the preschool lab. Family and Consumer Science teacher Mrs. DeMarco highlighted the hard work required for this experience. “The students were given ten lesson topics that align with the preschool curriculum,” she said. “They then had to create lesson plans that included hands-on activities to engage the preschoolers.” Check out the full article here.
FCCLA: Members attended the Spring FCCLA Conference at Naugatuck Valley Community College in April. They had the opportunity to network with other chapters from across the state and attend student-led presentations in culinary arts, fashion, and education. The event also featured a live cooking demonstration by Johnson & Wales University, who also visited THS Culinary classes. According to Mrs. Demarco, “this valuable experience will help prepare members to compete next year.”
