Torrington stood strong and remained sportmanslike during a tough game versus Windsor on September 12.
During their first game under the Friday night lights on September 12th, the Torrington football team went head-to-head with the Windsor Warriors. After a somewhat hostile match up on and off the field, Torrington remained sportsmanlike while suffering their first loss 28-13.
Within the first quarter, Senior Evan Roman scored our first touchdown, giving us the lead. As time went on, the opposing team began to show their true colors, and it was not long before tension between the two teams started.
Both teams suffered minor injuries here and there that were always met with a cordial kneel; but only from the Raiders. While injured players were being attended to, the Warriors showed outward signs of respect. Senior Ella Le said that at other times, “the Warrior cheerleaders were openly aggressive to THS, yelling at the kids’ parents and twerking when their team scored.”
Torrington stood strong through the visible mental setbacks. They worked as a team to boost each other up when things got hard, and they didn’t do it alone. Many parents and students came to bring up their spirit and cheer them on across all 4 quarters – through highs and lows – and showed us what it really means to be a team.
Le complimented the Raiders, saying they “stayed strong and played well.”
On September 12th, our team showed that success isn’t just about winning. It’s about harmony and setting an example to others. From the first kick to the last second on the board, the Raiders stayed focused and played for the community, not for themselves.
