Torrington High School and Torrington Middle School bands are preparing for an incredible musical experience this Monday as they join forces with the world-renowned Dallas Brass for a day of rehearsals, clinics, and a special evening concert.

In an unexpected opportunity, Dallas Brass reached out to several Connecticut schools in search of collaboration partners, and Torrington was one of only five contacted. Out of those, Torrington was the only one to say yes.

“It’s giving them the opportunity to have a world-class, world-renowned, performing group in our building,” said Mr. Splettstoeszer, the THS band teacher.

On Monday, the day begins with a morning rehearsal at the high school, followed by a session with the middle school band. Later, both groups will come together for a special clinic led by the members of Dallas Brass, where students will learn not only about music but also about career paths in performance and the professional world of music.

Senior Drum Major Thien An Lam has been working hard to support his bandmates: “I really want our piece to be played well, and so I’m making sure that we all can play it to the best of our abilities.”

In the evening, Torrington’s student musicians will take the stage alongside Dallas Brass for a joint concert performance. The Dallas Brass will provide the music selections, guiding students through pieces that highlight the group’s signature blend of classical, jazz, and contemporary styles.

Thien shares his excitement: “I’m very excited to be playing with the Dallas Brass. They are an amazing group and the fact they decided to come for free to our school is a real honor. The band has been working hard on the piece we’ll be playing for the concert, and as well as Mr. Splettstoeszer.”

Founded in 1983, Dallas Brass has performed across the nation and even for U.S. Presidents, bringing high-caliber musicianship and inspiring stories wherever they go.

For Torrington’s young musicians, this is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform with one of the world’s top brass ensembles—an experience that few schools ever receive.
