The last show to ever be performed on Torrington’s Little Theater stage is going to be The Play That Goes Wrong by Henry Lewis, Henry Shields, and Jonathan Sayer.
The Play That Goes Wrong follows Cornley Drama Society and their opening performance of The Murder at Haversham Manor. Their night doesn’t go as planned at all with people forgetting their lines, props breaking, and sets falling apart. This Comedy forces Chris, their first time director to share both humor, anger, and fear.
According to set designer Mr. Zwart, this show is very organic; the set is essentially its own character. This means that a lot of hard work is going to have to happen backstage. Mr. Zwart, director says “The set is dynamic and meant to be moving, but getting it moving properly and safely is a big challenge. My team is excited to get the set up and all of the set pieces in motion.”
The actors say the rehearsals are going well so far. “They are very productive actually,” Senior Riley McIntyre states. “They’re very long, but productive. We meet the checkpoints Ms. Maciel puts for us.”
Senior Reed Freiler is excited about the show. “I think it’s a really funny script, with a lot of great material, and we have a good cast for it.” This show being the very last production on this theater’s stage is a big thing. McIntyre originally thought that a more well-known show would have been a better send off but has changed her mind.
“Now, I think it is better to be the last(show) on the stage rather than a classic show would be. It makes us leave our mark for ourselves, not just the school.”
Overall, ‘The Play that Goes Wrong’ seems like a wonderful choice in show. With its humor, people can’t help but smile. If you would like to see this show for yourself once it opens, you can go December 5th, 6th, or 7th at 7 pm. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults.
