If you enjoy reading, book club is the club for you. Book Club is one of the clubs at THS for students who love to read or are interested in books or talking about them. What occurs in the book club is just as expected. People in the club talk about books they like, pick books to read, and discuss the books as a group.
They usually meet during club time once a month but due to clubs being canceled, they have not been able to meet. Mrs. Davino said she has been talking to the club members and trying to figure out other times they could meet. She and Mrs. Galway are co-advisors of the club.
Book Club is open for anyone to join. If you join, there’s no need to feel pressured to go every time they meet. Mrs Davino says “You don’t have to attend every session only if you want to read and discuss the current book.” This may change with the new club rules going into place in December.
Mrs Davino wants students to become enthusiastic readers.
What’s so good about book club? Well Mrs Davino likes “that the kids pick the books”.
Angelina Ciesco joined because she loves to read. “I joined because I loved reading and I wanted a group to be able to talk about my opinions on books with!” She also said, “I truly love book clubs and I love talking to people who have the same interests as me. I also like hearing about books I would have never read on my own.” If you feel the same way about reading as she does, then this may be the club for you!
Can’t decide what to read? Ciesco recommends “Beach Read” and “Happy Place” by Emily Henry, which she read this summer. She also recommends Jennette McCurdy’s books, like her memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died, which was the first memoir that Ciesco read.
If anything about the book club could be changed, Mrs Davino wishes for easier access to books they want to read. They currently get their books from the public library, which she says “can be very cumbersome.” If the library at school still had books it may have been easier for the book club to get books.
