At the Senior Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, September 16th, students were warned that receiving two or more major referrals would hold them back from attending Homecoming. Not a big deal, right? Well, enter the new dress code!
A major referral for dress code, according to the THS Student Handbook, is if “a student has violated the dress code two or more instances.” For example, if a student only got one write-up regarding dress code, that would only count as a minor referral. However, if they get another dress code violation, that counts as a major referral, which could result in an absence from the homecoming dance on October 25.
The new dress code includes violations for wearing slides, pajama bottoms, and excessively ripped jeans – all things that have previously been allowed. Multiple students have already been dress-coded twice. It is unclear right now how many are being banned from Homecoming.
Other major referral is defined in the handbook as: “skipping class, physical aggression, vandalism, inappropriate language, lack of school attendance, loitering/roaming, bullying, threats, and drug paraphernalia.” These actions will also result in loss of privileges, including no attendance at homecoming.
