Mr. Tyler has been a track coach at THS for 26 years, with 5 years of experience prior to coaching here. This year, all of his hard work has paid off, with him receiving the Brooks Inspirational Coach of the Year award. The award consists of a coach being nominated for each region of the country, and then a final winner to win the grand prize. Although the grand winner has not been chosen yet, Mr. Tyler was the one awarded for the Northeast region.
When asked how he feels about such an award, Tyler states “I felt honored. It feels very validating.” He goes on to explain what his favorite part of coaching is, which is “seeing the athletes succeed. Not just in sports performance, but in life.” There is no doubt that Coach Tyler has a huge impact on his athletes lives.
Even the athletes agree with the impact of his bonds with them. Senior track athlete Kel Camara states that his relationships with the athletes continue both on and off the field” and both “during and not during the season.” All of the athletes asked had no doubt that Coach Tyler is completely deserving of the award. Junior Krystian Garcia explained a very universal opinion from all the athletes interviewed, saying “he is super deserving of the award because of how much hard work he puts in and how much he cares about everyone.”
Big congratulations to Mr. Tyler for all of the work he’s put into coaching track for the past 31 years.
