The new THS and TMS are currently being built and while everyone is concerned with the actual building itself, the furniture inside the building needs some attention too. The furniture will be a mix of new furniture and some from the current school. There is also more furniture moving with us than you would think, such as most non-mounted smart boards, all pre-K materials, Mrs. Brewer’s materials, and art supplies.
Mr. Scott gave the inside scoop. Teachers will have to share rooms, but when asked if there was an adequate amount of furniture Mr. Scott said, “There is an appropriate amount in regards to students [but] less overall due to what we already have, as well as built-ins.”
The furniture was hand-picked by students, teachers, and board committees. The students had a say on the furniture and got to see pictures, and decided from there. They decided to use desks which will be independent desks and chairs which is different from what we have now. The teachers were grouped by department and showed pictures as well.
Mr. Rubino had input on the lab desks and chairs they will use in the chemistry rooms, but he mentioned that while the teachers had say, not everything they suggested went through to the new building. He remarked, “I would’ve liked more teacher input on prep rooms, especially science, the amount of space is disproportionate to what they should be (for chemical storage).”
