Movies are an essential part of the holiday season. But which ones are the most popular? THS students’ top picks were The Grinch, Home Alone, and Elf. But what makes these movies the best?
For Senior Ava Bavol who chose The Grinch as her favorite Christmas movie, “Watching it just feels like Christmas.” Some students agree that the feelings you associate with watching a movie are what makes it enjoyable.
Home Alone is Junior Avalee Fritch’s favorite. Avalee enjoys the action. “It’s fun. I feel like I’d wanna do that.” She refers to the plot of the movie, in which an 8-year-old, Kevin McAllister, is left to protect his home from burglars all by himself while his family is on the other side of the world. Although she sees more importance in the storyline than aesthetics, she also noted that the general vibes of the movie are what makes it the best. “It makes me feel happy; the music feels Christmassy.”
The 1969 animated movie Frosty The Snowman isn’t anyone’s favorite, besides Senior Joey Slattery. The movie isn’t as popular these days because of how old it is. But for Joey, the movie is tradition. “I watch it every year with my family,” he shared. He believes that nostalgia is what makes a movie the best.
