On May 28th, theater students from across Connecticut gathered at the Palace Theater in Waterbury for the annual Halos Awards. This night is dedicated to celebrating high school theater excellence. Over 90 Connecticut high schools attended this event! Torrington High School took center stage with standout performances that wowed the audience and honored the hard work of its cast, crew, and directors.
One student, Senior Reed Freiler, reflected on the lasting impact that theater had on his personal growth, saying that theater taught him “to be more confident, to think creatively when solving problems, and to handle difficult people in a professional way.” His experience highlights how the program goes beyond performance by helping students develop real-world skills that will benefit them long after their high school days.
The THS Student Theater had a night to remember at the 2025 Halo Awards. As Mrs. Zwart proudly shared, “We would like to congratulate Reed Freiler and Jane Riley for winning Best Prop Design for The Play That Goes Wrong and Working. Ace VonRichthofen and Gio Quinones won scholarships to Dance Molinari. Finally, congratulations to the entire cast of The Play That Goes Wrong for winning Best Performance by a Cast in an Ensemble.”
Students and staff alike celebrated the achievements. Junior Nate Pepler shared, “The awards that were won were very well deserved,” capturing the pride felt throughout the theater community. The evening was a powerful reminder of the hard work, talent, and dedication behind every performance at THS.
