Saturday September 7th marked the date of Torrington High School’s first UCONN Band day.

The marching band packed up and headed towards Rentschler field to make it in time for the UCONN vs. Merrimack football game. The group was guided onto the field around 7:30 A.M. to witness UCONN’s new pre-game show. Afterward, the band spent some one-on-one time with the UCONN band members.

Clarinetist Sara He (junior) comments the Huskies were “definitely more advanced [which] helped me learn what I could do better.”  Percussionist Vinny Mazza (freshman) seconded that opinion adding that the UCONN students were “great teachers.”

This year is the first time Torrington has participated in UCONN band day but so far the response has been relentlessly positive. Clarinetist Sophia Sedlack (junior) summarizes the day as “An exciting experience, [that] encouraged me to try to do better in the High School band.” With such enormous support, many hope that this year’s UCONN band day won’t be the last.

As the clock drew closer to game time, the THS marching band headed towards the bleachers in anticipation for the halftime show. UCONN took a strong lead in the first quarter, sparking spirit and enthusiasm across the statement. That energy only grew as the second quarter came to an end.

Finally, the THS marching band made their way onto the field standing just a few feet away from UCONN’s best athletes. At last, the buzzer rang and UCONN marched onto the field. They played confidently with sharp movements then, the drum majors singled all the schools present it was time for their debut.

Torrington High School along with many other marching bands rushed the field playing alongside the UCONN marching band. The performance ended with a tremendous applause and the bands headed back to enjoy the rest of the game with their friends.
