Torrington raiders football carried the team to yet another victory against Derby on Friday, leading them to a 4-0 record, which they have not had since 2015, and breaking Derby’s 3-0 record.
In an interview with Peter Wallace from the Register Citizen, Coach Gaitan Rodriguez stated “It was a lot of hard work.” Even the Derby coach gives Torrington credit, stating that the team “moves the ball very well.” Senior running back Edwin Rivera scored touchdowns in each of the first three quarters of the game. Senior captain Micheal Ahoua had 109 yards on 12 carries, while junior runningback Aiden Hansen had 129 yards on 9.
Senior Kel Camara states that the reason the team was so successful on Friday was because they were “all able to execute the job, especially with EJ, Aiden, and Micheal being great runners. We have a lot of great weapons that we are able to use to our advantage. And on our defensive side, our linemen were able to stop their quarterback.”
The players were not the only successful ones Friday night. The pink-out themed game for breast cancer awareness month led to the student section being decked out in pink, and a part of the raffle basket proceeds being donated to the Pink Rose Fund at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
The team faces Kennedy High School with a record of 2-2 on Friday, October 11, at 4:45 PM at the Robert Frost Sports Complex.
Go raiders!
