As time is crunching closer to the day when both students and teachers move into the new building, much stress is arising. Do teachers have enough time to pack and unpack? Do the teachers have any complaints? How could this possibly impact the students? One of the main concerns seems to be among Science teachers like Mr. Rubino and Mrs. Norige. Their questions – how to transfer the large amount of equipment they’ll have to move.
One of Rubino’s big worries is the whole packing process considering he has tons of glass and fragile items to pack. Despite the bubble wrap they were supplied with, these expensive items may not survive the big move. Rubino states, “Packing is definitely the biggest stressor, and finding time to do it.” Norige thinks they are given sufficient time with the two days they have after Thanksgiving break.
A student of THS, Angelina Ciesco, believes that their teaching styles and the way they run labs will be affected due to all of the supplies being packed away. Most science teachers have labs planned out for the rest of this semester but may struggle to run them correctly since they don’t have access to all of their supplies, which is another worry of Rubino. Ciesco observed that “the other departments will have fewer problems considering they have less equipment but they will still have similar struggles.”
The new building requires many teachers to share classrooms. Once we are all moved into the new school teachers will no longer have their own desks in classrooms, they will have lockers instead which takes away from their personal space. Teachers sharing rooms may seem like a problem to some, but Rubino thinks it will be fine since the science teachers use mostly the same equipment anyway.
Going along with personal space, teachers also have their own personal styles. Most students and staff that attend THS have seen Norige’s very fun and decorated room. Now since teachers will be sharing rooms, Norige says, “I assume there are limits to how you can decorate the rooms.” The impression is that the new school will require some limits set in place, but Norige and Rubino suggested it will be a new and exciting process for everyone.
We are well aware of all the teacher’s stress, but what about the students? Just because the students don’t have equipment to transfer, or classrooms to share doesn’t mean they can’t be stressed. Lots of students claim day to day that they worry about going straight into the school when they don’t know what they’re doing or where they’re going. Ciesco claims, “I don’t want to feel like a freshman again.”
