The Black Student Union at THS just had their first ever event, a 3 on 3 basketball tournament hosted in the gym. The inspiration from it, Vice President Kajeda Fraser says, is the member’s shared love for the sport of basketball. “We have a lot of members geared towards basketball and thought it would be the perfect idea,” Fraser states.
Yet, the events will not stop there. Both President and Vice President Olivia Andrade and Fraser claim that they are looking forward to hosting more events like these towards the beginning of next year. Fraser tells students to look forward to the future of BSU: “Expect something in February!”
Their main goal is to gather as much traction and gain as many members as possible. Fraser wants BSU to be a safe space, both to have time to unite with like-minded people or to discuss any possible issues members may be experiencing. “I would love for them to come to me or any officers or the advisor for any issues they’re having racially.
BSU president Olivia Andrade urges students to “show up and show out.”
