This past Saturday, February 8th, at the prestigious Millrose Games held at The Nike Track at The Armory in Washington Heights, New York, senior Micheal Ahoua achieved a milestone that solidified his place among the nation’s best. With a remarkable jump of 24 feet, Ahoua is now ranked third in the country for long jump.
Leading up to the meet, Ahoua had already been making waves in the track and field world. “In NVLs, I PR’d and jumped 23 feet for the first time,” he shared. “So going into the Millrose Games, I was hoping to PR once again. I ended up jumping 24—I didn’t know I was capable of it.”
Ahoua’s success isn’t limited to athletics—he is just as accomplished in the classroom and in leadership roles. As of this year, he has taken six AP classes and is a consistent honor roll student. He serves as the Student Council Executive President, Interact Club President, and is a member of both the National Honor Society and the National Science Honor Society.
His achievements come as no surprise to those who know him best. His best friend, Gianni Lugo, praised his work ethic and potential, saying, “Seeing him succeed is no surprise, he’s a hard worker. He’s got a bright future ahead of him, and this is just the beginning.”
Beyond his personal achievements, Ahoua is also recognized as a leader on the track team. Sophomore Naziah Lopez highlighted his impact, saying, “He’s a good leader and role model. He always wants all of us to succeed and cares a lot about the team.”
Sophomore Dominic Evans-Lewis also spoke about Ahoua’s influence, saying, “Micheal is truly inspirational—not just as an athlete, but as a person. He’s taught me a lot, but most importantly, he’s shown me to always stay humble.”
One thing Coach Cahill appreciates most about Ahoua? His work ethic. “He’s a very hard worker; he was often the last athlete to leave practice last outdoor season.”
As he continues to push the limits of his abilities, Ahoua remains grounded, expressing gratitude for those who have supported him along the way. “I owe the support to God, my parents, my coaches, and my beloved friends that support me no matter what.”
With his record-breaking performance, academic excellence, and strong leadership, Ahoua serves as an inspiration to athletes and students alike—proof that hard work, faith, and determination can take you further than you ever imagined.
