As the THS Boys Swim season is coming to an end we all are dying to hear some updates on how the season went, and the progress of the team. Boys Swim Team senior Jay Barrera says they’ve had two successful wins this season. Swim coach Brain Arnold states they have a 2-7 record which is below their standards, but reasonable considering the small size of 13 swimmers on the team.
Although they performed well as a team, there were still underlying challenges for not only the team to face, but Coach Arnold, as well. Junior Abraham Radwan says this season has been very challenging, especially with the very strenuous workouts. “Competition wise we aren’t doing great, we are very undersized. But we put in a lot more work in practices than any other team. “We meditate, we work out differently, we’re way more together”
Coach Brian says the biggest improvement for the team would be greater participation considering they are already at a rough size disadvantage compared to other teams with 22-25 swimmers. On the flip side, sophomore Jordan Chau claims, “I would like to say that our team chemistry is very high, we’re more than a swim team.”
Arnold personally states that as a coach he needs to do a better job advocating for how valuable it really is to be on the THS Swim Team. Although swimming isn’t as popular as the other sports like football or basketball, the team has a great history with personal and team success. “We are a tight-knit group that really cares about each other.”
Overall, the swimmers performance this year has had a positive impact on their personal growth. Radwan states, “When I put in a lot of work, and get good results, it makes me happy.” Working hard and putting in your best efforts always pays off in good results whether it shows throughout the whole team or just you personally.
To improve for next season, Jordan Chau says, “Our team could work on making a better work ethic. [We need to] work on the little things like breathing too much, not listening as much as we should.” They are looking forward to taking both the successes and losses from this season to make their ’25-’26 season even better.
