Four Torrington High School students recently had the opportunity to learn from one of the nation’s most accomplished nature photographers during a special visit to Great Mountain Forest.

Thanks to an invitation from Viki Nelson, students Leonardo Hernandez, Elva Mora, Deannah Shehu, and Rowan VonRichtofen spent three hours exploring the forest with renowned photographer Tom Blagden. Blagden, whose images have appeared on the covers of Smithsonian, Audubon, and Sierra magazines, generously donated his time to teach students how to observe and photograph the natural landscape through a professional’s lens.

The experience gave students a unique chance to combine art, creativity, and environmental appreciation while learning from an expert in the field.
