Beyond The Court: How One Student Leaves a Legacy

Passionate, determined, inspiring. These were the words classmates used to describe THS student, Dominic Evans-Lewis. Lewis is a junior here at THS, he is a star player and captain for the boys basketball team, he consistently makes high honors with distinction, and he’s active in many clubs including Black Student Union and NHS.

Lewis has been playing basketball for as long as he can remember. When he came to Torrington High School he automatically stood out to coaches, making varsity his Freshman year and captain by his Sophomore year. His junior season he has been a strong player and an inspiring teammate.

Senior Captain and one of his best friends, Owen Fenn, states, “On the court Dom brings what we all need. He is a true leader who doesn’t just worry about himself but likes to get everyone involved.”

Not only does he shine on the court, but also in school. Lewis holds high A’s in all his classes and has various awards including the history award in his Freshman and Sophomore year and the business award.

Outside of school Lewis attends church where he is actively involved. He helps out in the community and he is also a member of THS’ National Honor Society, a club highlighting academic success and community involvement.

Lewis is also the secretary of the Black Student Union. Kajeda Fraser, president of the club, states “His overall presence in Torrington High School helps keep the club stay in line and he is very organized.”

Lewis is also a family man who looks up to his mom. He says “My mom inspires me, seeing her work so hard and struggle to get to success.” His goal is to make her proud and that’s what makes him so determined.

Fenn also claims, “Dom is my brother… When you see how hard he works and how focused he gets, it’s hard not to be inspired and want to be better.”

“Remember why we do it”, Lewis reiterates these words to his friends and his teammates. Dom is a walking reminder to his peers as to why it is important to keep pushing toward your goals. On social media he makes posts “Road to D1” where he shows his journey and progress towards his future goals in basketball.

One thing Lewis  wants everyone to know is that they can learn from their mistakes. He states that “You can fall down 7 times, you stand up 8.” This is how Dominic Evan-Lewis leaves his legacy.
