Kajeda Fraser is a current senior attending THS. Kajeda is very active in her school as well as in the Torrington community. She is currently participating in Student Council as Senior Class President, Black Student Union as President, the Model United Nations Club as Ambassador of Finance, and on the Track & Field team. In her community, she volunteers with the YMCA year-round, with the Torrington Youth Service Bureau during Christmas time, and serves on the Mayor’s Committee on Youth as President during the school year. After high school, she plans to attend UCONN in the fall to study finance. In this newspaper, her goal is to write about more worldly topics that will interest the students of THS. In her free time, she enjoys trying out new recipes and reading “Chick Lit.”
On paper, the Torrington High School golf team may not stand out for its size, but what the Raiders lack in numbers, they make up for in chemistry, commitment, and a shared drive to improve.
Led by head coach Patrick Anderson and assistant coach Michael Fritch, the team has embraced a positive and encouraging culture. Coach Anderson’s passion is evident in the way he leads. Senior varsity player Avalee Fritch said, “He pushes us to improve while still leaving room to have fun.”
Right alongside him is Coach Fritch. Having played golf all his life, Fritch brings enthusiasm and experience to the team. The new coaching duo has successfully advocated for better equipment for the team. A brand-new golf set can range anywhere from $300 to $1,000. This achievement was a huge win for the team, ultimately setting them up for a successful season.
Together, the coaches have created an environment where the team feels motivated and supported, something that has not gone unnoticed by players.
This year’s roster shows a strong senior class, including Captain Caden Morin, Owen Fenn, Avalee Fritch, and Abraham Radwan. Many of them have been playing together since freshman year. Fenn shared, “I think we are one of the closer-knit teams.”
Morin remarked that he has one goal for the season: to break par in a round this season. His goal is proving to be harder than expected, but Morin keeps his hopes high.
The Raiders have already faced some early-season challenges. In a recent match on April 28 at Chippanee Country Club against the St. Paul Falcons, they lost 189-174. Despite the loss, there were strong individual performances from a few players. Fenn managed to shoot a 44, with Radwan on his tail with a 45.
While results may vary, the team is determined to focus on long-term improvement in hopes of making it to the postseason. The team is made up of athletes with clear goals and dedication. As the season progresses, Torrington’s golf team proves that success should not be measured by numbers, but by heart — something they compete with in every match.
