Have you ever wanted to try Thai food? In Torrington, CT you can! At Taste of Thailand located at 19 McDermott Ave they offer a variety of authentic dishes from pad thai to curry. I decided to give it a try.
I chose to dine in although they do offer take out and delivery options. The atmosphere was surrounded with lush greenery in a dimly lit space. The dining room is not huge by any means however on the Thursday night I went, only a few tables were taken and we got seated promptly. The restaurant was overall very clean and organized.
For an appetizer we chose the fried wontons served with a side of sweet chili sauce. These were delectable and they came out steaming hot. The sweet chili sauce complements the savory chicken inside the wrapper very well, although this is one of the smaller appetizers on the starter menu it is definitely worth the try.
For my entree I got the crispy hot basil pad thai and this was also my first time trying pad thai! This meal was a perfect balance of spice and garlic basil with a collection of veggies to complement the dish. It was not overly spicy and all the meals on the menu have a spice level so you can customize how much spice you can handle. The portion size is also very big, definitely some leftovers to take home!
To finish the night, we decided to try some dessert. We tried the mango sticky rice and the fried banana with ice cream. The mango sticky rice was not my personal favorite however the mango was very fresh and coconut cream drizzled on top complemented the fruit well. Mainly, the rice threw me off as it did taste like popcorn and not rice. The fried banana with ice cream however was absolutely delicious. The banana was covered by a thin wonton wrapper with sweet honey drizzled on top. It wasn’t too sweet but of course there was ice cream to help with that, overall it was a nice light dessert.
Overall, Taste of Thailand in Torrington is definitely worth a try and I will be back to try some more! The service was quick, food was delicious, and the vibes were amazing. Check out their menu and more reviews at https://tasteofthailandct.com/
