On Thursday, November 6, Rockstar Games announced that the sequel to the highly acclaimed Grand Theft Auto series will be delayed yet again. The game was officially announced for release on May 26, 2026, and was delayed until November 19, 2026.
Grand Theft Auto 6’s First trailer was announced during December of 2023 and was originally supposed to come out in 2025. This is arguably the most anticipated video game to ever be released, and there must be lots of pressure to produce a good product.
On December 10, 2020, CD Project Red released Cyberpunk 2077. At the time, this was a highly anticipated game that the fans were forced to wait around 8 years for. When this game was released, it was infested with many technical issues. This made the fans outrageous after waiting how long they had to wait and all of the false promises.
CD Project Red has released updates targeting and successfully eliminating most glitches to make it a playable game, and arguably a great game. Even though all of this effort was put into fixing this game, some people will never give it another chance due to the horrible launch, often regarded as the worst launch in video game history.
When GTA 6 was delayed, the creators of Cyberpunk reposted an old tweet of CD Project Red stating ¨No more delays are happening.¨ Fans did not know what this meant at first, thinking they were throwing shade at Rockstar Games. After analyzing, fans realized they were trying to give Rockstar advice.
What was likely meant by this tweet was for Rockstar to take as many delays as they need to release a finished product. Going into launch, CD Project Red had insane potential with Cyberpunk 2077, but rushed the product for the fans so it would be out when it was supposed to, which led to a more than poor launch and led fans to be furious.
About a week before the delay, Rockstar Games fired 31 workers, according to bbc.com. When reporters asked different staff questions about the layoff, they stated ¨Staff were sacked for sharing confidential information,¨ and also added ¨we took action against a small number of individuals who were found to be distributing and discussing confidential information.¨ It can be inferred that what was likely leaked by the ex-staff members was GTA 6 information.
Prior to these layoffs, there were protests to follow suit outside the Rockstar Games headquarters. According to independent.co.uk, in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. The primary focus of these protests are to ¨reinstate the 31 workers it sacked.¨ Analysts believe that this may be a factor towards the delay.
