Nevaeh Henry is a current senior at Torrington High School. She is a member of TOP Club, which stands for Teen Outreach Program, and supports students in making and sustaining positive choices in their daily lives while engaging in their communities. In her free time, she loves either shopping with her friends or family or simply relaxing in bed all day. One of Nevaeh’s passions after high school is to work in the field of speech-language pathology to become a pediatric speech therapist. Nevaeh’s goal this year is to focus on her college career and on making it through senior year.
THS has no vending machines. Adding machines would help students needs.
Are you tired of having Grab ‘n’ Go lunches on half days? Or having to do sports just to come back to school and not have anything to eat?
Adding Vending Machines would be a quick fix to our problem. According to THS Principal Mr. Scott, vending machines are a possibility, with certain conditions. He is also in favor of them.
Mr. Scott suggests that vending machines are very convenient for the school, especially if they partner up with someone who offers healthy foods. Mr. Scott states, “We have a lot of students who participate in either after-school activities or sports, and you know it could be a good opportunity to get a healthy snack before you go to practice or while you’re at Drama or Band Rehearsal.”
Students definitely want this. Most kids like Nevaena Knight and Jasia Oliver suggest that vending machines at Torrington High School would be a great idea because it will make it easier and faster for students to grab snacks and drinks, especially when the cafeteria is crowded or closed.
Knight stated, “They could offer the same thing the Raider Shack offers and more, especially because some students don’t have study hall periods 1,2, and 3 and aren’t allowed to go to the Raider Shack”.
The THS Raider Shack is open during school hours throughout the day when the cafeteria is not open, from 10:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m..
The cafeteria is being used for lunch throughout those hours, so most kids end up having to wait all the way until their lunch time. First lunch starting at 11:45 a.m. This causes concerns among hungry students because of the limited time they have access to the Raider Shack.
By supporting vending machines, we can create a more convenient and enjoyable environment for all students at Torrington High School. Let’s work together to make this happen.
