Students from Unified Sports programs across the NVL came together recently for an end-of-year picnic celebrating friendship, teamwork, and another successful season of Unified athletics. The event brought together athletes, partners, coaches, and staff members for a day full of activities, games, and community.
Throughout the day, students rotated through different stations where they played sports and lawn games, created arts and crafts projects, and competed in board games with students from other schools. The picnic also included lunch, music, and a dance party that kept the energy high all afternoon.
The event served as a celebration of all the Unified Sports programs that took place throughout the school year, including Unified bowling, soccer, basketball, and other activities. Students had the chance to reflect on the season while meeting new people and strengthening friendships built through sports.
Senior Maddie McGillicuddy said Unified Sports has been one of the most meaningful parts of her high school experience.
“Unified gives everyone a place where they feel included and supported,” McGillicuddy said. “I love being able to build friendships with people I may not have met otherwise. Seeing everyone smile, compete, and just have fun together is what makes it so special.”
Unified Sports programs focus on inclusion by bringing together students of all abilities to compete and work together as teammates. Events like the picnic help continue those connections outside of competition while celebrating the accomplishments of the year.
As the school year comes to a close, the picnic gave students one final opportunity to come together, make memories, and celebrate the positive community that Unified Sports creates throughout the NVL.
