In less than one week, two super typhoons bigger than the Philippines itself tore through the country.
According to national disaster officials, more than 1.4m people were forced to evacuate leaving a trail of destruction that has pushed millions of Filipinos to the brink. Approximately 200 lives lost and over 30000 people are in evacuation centers with authorities warning that the numbers may increase as search efforts continue in remote areas.
People have lost their homes, families and access to clean water, entire villages submerged, houses swept away, and critical infrastructure severely damaged.
Experts say the twin typhoons became so intense because of the global climate crisis. Greenhouse gases warm the oceans, and warmer oceans create stronger storms.
Filipinos are forced to their limits, because they are exploited by western fossil fuel companies and their own corrupt government. Global oil corporations, such as Shell, have long been aware of the evidence on climate change, yet they continue to profit from fossil fuels, contributing to the destruction of the Philippines.
The Philippines are especially vulnerable because they are prone to typhoons, rising sea levels, and flooding making the consequences of fossil fuel severe. funding flood control projects despite numerous outcry from the masses the politicians have yet to help much instead reaching out to other countries for help.
