For over a decade Torrington High Schools Interact Club has been raising money for Charlotte Hungerford hospitals pink rose fund. The Pink Rose Fund helps women in CT have access to breast cancer screenings and treatment.
Students in the school’s Interact Club spent time during the beginning of breast cancer awareness month making pink ribbon pins to sell during lunch waves. From October 21st to October 25th students will be selling ribbons in the cafe for $1 each. Students buy the ribbons to show their support for breast cancer awareness and help a good cause. Ms. Chamberlin, one of the club’s advisors, thinks that it’s important to spread awareness because breast cancer “is a treatable disease that when caught early can save lives.”
Interact club president Micheal Ahoua stated that the purpose of selling ribbons was, “to raise funds for breast cancer awareness” because “many women all over the world are affected by breast cancer and it’s important to want to support the cause.”
Many teenagers are not educated on breast cancer so in selling ribbons the Interact club creates an opportunity for students to understand what it is and how to support it. Interact treasurer Hajrah Arshad states students should be involved in breast cancer awareness “to help support others and educate themselves because you never know who may be affected.”
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and in supporting the ribbon sales students can help Charlotte Hungerford Pink Rose Fund save lives.
