The Raider Report is now honoring two athletes a month for their hard work and dedication to their sport.
The athletes for September are Sophomore Isabella ‘Bella’ Murelli for girls soccer and Senior Brendan Keskula for Boys’ Cross Country! Although she is still an underclassman, Bella has been on varsity since her freshman year. During the past week, she tallied 3 goals and 2 assists, with her standout moment coming in the team’s match against Ansonia. There, Bella fired a goal from the 25-yard line, winning the game for Torrington. Her clutch play has been instrumental in the team’s recent success.
Teammates describe Bella as very hardworking. “She always shows up and cares about the team,” says Varsity Senior Avalee. Bella started playing soccer at just 4 years old and continues to stay passionate about the sport. A team player, she “want[s] to “be better for my teammates.”
This season, she hopes the team continues to play at their best, finish as a top team in the NVL, and make it to states.
Teammates describe Brendan as supportive and highly energized. He started running for our school team four years ago as a freshman and also competes for our Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field teams. Running year-round can be taxing, but Brendan pushes himself by proving that he can do hard things. “Seeing success is what keeps me going,” he says.
This season, one of Brendan’s personal goals is to make the All-NVL First Team, and he believes he can achieve it with the support of his teammates. As one of three captains of the XC team, he hopes they finish at the top of the NVL, and he’s proud of the team’s dedication this year.
