Boys: Aiden Hansen
The athletes of October are Senior Aiden Hansen for Boys’ Football and Senior Ella Le for Girls’ Cross Country! During the past month Hansen rushed 1,115 yards making him #1 in Class MM. Aiden recalls his favorite game of the season to be the Pink Out Game against GNH. There Hansen surprisingly caught a ball that bounced off of someone’s hand. This play resulted in another touchdown by Hansen that game.
As one of the senior captains, Hansen is widely revered by his teammates. Junior Mason Gop says, “He leads by his presence on the field.” Junior Tristan Smith added, “Aiden works on himself before coming to the team.” Hansen owes his drive to his father, who has encouraged him to play since he was seven years old.
For the rest of the season, Hansen hopes the team gives it their all to get to the playoffs. Let’s go Raiders!
Girls: Ella Le
After running her second year of Cross Country, Le claims this season to be her best yet! Coach Ferrare and Cahill commend her performance over the season and have noticed improvement until the end. Le’s favorite race of the season was NVL Championships, which were hosted on Watertown’s course, Veteran’s Memorial Park. There, Torrington had their senior night, and all the girls were able to run.
Le was proud of her team’s performance: “That was the first time in 5 years girls could score as a team.” She references an NVL rule which states, “A team must enter a Varsity team (at least 5 runners) in order to be eligible for award ribbons.”
Le always look forward to the Cross Country season. She started running last year to help her with the 300m hurdles ,but has since fallen in love with it. She uses XC to release stress once academics start to build up. “It’s nice to have something other than school to focus on”, Le quips.
With the Cross Country season over, Le looks forward to continuing her long-distance runs in Indoor Track.
