Torrington High School senior Brendan Keskula has officially made history at THS, becoming the first person since 2001 to qualify for State Opens. This is a huge deal for both Brendand and the school itself, as it’s been almost 25 years since someone from THS made it this far.
Keskula accomplished this after an intense, difficult race where he truly had to put his work ethic to the test. Despite the excitement surrounding the exciting race, Keskula remained humble. He responded, after being asked if he feels like he fulfilled a legacy at THS, “NOT like in a way that it’s gonna be remembered or anything,” he said, “But I feel like I have done a lot within the school, and I’ve used my resources to the best of my abilities”.
Even though he remained humble after his amazing win, there’s no denying the level of strength, resilience, and dedication it took to get him to that level.
Around THS, Keskula is known not only for his love and talent for running, but he’s also known for his sharp style and wit. He has been committed to running since his freshman year, being a part of both the cross country and track teams since his freshman year of high school.
Keskula referenced that two major influences on his incredible journey have been Scott Spooner, a THS graduate and current college freshman, and his coach, Mr. Cahill. Both played important roles in helping him grow into the athlete he is today.
Brendan’s State Opens qualification made both THS students and staff proud, while also setting the bar quite high for students wishing to follow in his footsteps.
