Recently, THS PE teacher Mr.Anderson won the NVL Assistant Coach of the Year award. This season brings the second season Mr. Anderson has helped coach the boys’ soccer team.
Mr.Anderson made it clear that his mindset for coaching is never about one person, but he was in awe of having the feeling of being recognized. He explained, “What really made it special was knowing that it reflected the hard work of our entire coaching staff and the players.” This shows that Mr.Anderson reflects his coaching based on everyone around him.
The young coach went on to explain that it’s not all about winning but more about effort, attitude, and working hard. “I think the biggest factor was the effort and attitude of our players. They bought into what we were trying to do, stayed coachable, and worked hard every single day.”
“The advice I always share is to control what you can control”. Even though Mr.Anderson won the award, he made it about everyone else around him, including his players and the coaching staff, showing compassion and integrity.
