The THS Winter Formal, hosted by the junior student council, was cancelled after ticket sales failed to meet the required minimum.
Junior Student Council President Kailyn Castillo explained that the main reason was simple: “Not enough people bought tickets.” She shared that some students “thought it was going to be boring,” while others “didn’t want to waste money on outfits.” The cold weather may have also played a role, as “it’s cold, nobody wants to go out,” and some students may have felt the dance “was too much money.”
According to THS English teacher Ms. Strahowski, the event required “a minimum of 100 tickets for minimum profit for future events.” Even though tickets were sold for “2 1/2 weeks,” the sales “did not reach requirement.” Without enough funds, the school could not afford “to rent chaperones and hire an officer.”
Looking ahead, both leaders emphasized the importance of stronger promotion. Castillo suggested “more advertisements” and to “make it look more fun through social media” and “talk it up more.” Ms. Strahowski agreed, encouraging students to “post more on social media on both personal and school accounts,” along with “more production on whiteboards and maybe more posters” to boost attendance at future events.
