Devin Ballard is currently a senior at Torrington High School. He is part of the outdoor and indoor Torrington track and field teams and is a member of the Black Student Union. This school year, he hopes to earn good grades and run well during his track seasons. After he graduates, he plans to attend UConn to study psychology and neurology. Outside of school, he likes to go on runs and hikes. Most of all, he enjoys spending time with his dog, Luna. Through the Raider Report, he hopes to make all students feel heard and recognized.
Hello Raiders!
Outdoor Track and Field conditioning has been underway for the past three weeks, and it’s been great to see both returning athletes and many new faces putting in the work. The energy and commitment have been outstanding, and we’re excited to officially start the season on Monday, March 23rd.
If you’re interested in joining Track and Field, we encourage you to attend the final day of conditioning on Thursday, March 19th. This is a great opportunity to meet the coaches, get a feel for the program, connect with teammates, and learn what to expect for the upcoming season.
Whether you’re a sprinter, distance runner, or interested in field events, there’s a place for you on the team. Participating in conditioning is an important step in preparing your body for competition, it helps improve fitness, build strength, and reduce the risk of injury as the season begins.
Our coaching staff includes:
- Coach Cahill, a former Division II athlete and geometry teacher, who leads our distance program
- Coach Maldonado, a former throws coach who is returning this season
- Coach Rangel Pascual, a former sprinter and jumper for THS, who works with our sprinters and jumpers
Raiders interested in joining should make sure their FinalForms are completed and their physicals are up to date as soon as possible in order to participate in the first official practice.
We’re looking forward to a strong and successful season, come be a part of it!
Go Raiders!
